Waiting is painful…and CREATIVE
How I use my downtime to come up with new ideas
Book 2 redraft is still with my editor, and I’m patiently awaiting her feedback. Okay, patience is NOT one of my strengths. Which is probably why many of MC’s are impulsive and impetuous. I had plans of working on some social media posts. Getting things lined up and scheduled ahead so that once I receive the editing draft back from Lisa, I can get right into it and not worry about that aspect of being an author. Well, since my last post was three weeks ago, you can guess that didn’t quite go as planned.
So what did I do instead?
I organised a meeting for our village Newcomers Committee. Coordinating schedules around all the other village activities takes a lot of time…and patience (see note above).
I am also helping with a fundraising event. A neighbour and I are hosting a Horse Racing Night to raise funds for our Village Hall and for the church wall repair fund. For that, I created the sponsor posters, signs for the cash bar and prize collection booth, and created a brochure for the attendees to track their bets.
I also edited our local parish magazine – which I do monthly anyway. That takes time to collate and chase all the submissions. I’m not sure what I’m going to do when MS Publisher goes away next year.
And I put together another brochure for a local charity event.
You can see that in the past few weeks while I’ve been waiting for Lisa’s feedback, I’ve kept myself quite busy. Besides all that, I started meditating in the mornings again. When I’m working on a manuscript, I use the extra hour in the morning for my writing. So, it only made sense to use that hour for meditation instead.
And what do you know? I came up with another story idea.
This one is an urban fantasy. The story is about Myla, a half-ogre, half-human university student. Except she doesn’t know she’s a hybrid, but she’ll find out soon enough. Oh, and she’s the rightful heir to the Realm of Kralguar where her mother was once the queen and may now be a prisoner. And yes, there is a bulldog in it.
What are some things you do to keep your creativity flowing?
